A daylily is just beautiful
The daylily is a monocot related to Orchids, Hostas and even Grasses. Daylilies are in the Lily family (liliaceae) and as such are related to true lilies (Lilium).
Daylily species were originally found in Manchuria, Mongolia, Northern India as well as throughout China, Japan and Korea.
In their natural habitat daylilies are found in swamps, seashore meadows, forests edges and on mountains up to 10,000 feet.
If you are looking for low maintenance flowers for your flower garden, then daylilies are made for you. Flowers of the daylily family are one of the easiest perennials to grow.
The main benefit is that they are extremely hardy and forgiving plants. Few pests bother them. Large well developed clumps are weed and drought resistant and can live untended for decades.

Early blooming daylilies (e.g. 'Stella de Oro') can add a whole new dimension to your garden. Daylilies are excellent for forming a flower backbone or base from which to work around. Use them as you would a bulb; rely on them for consistent late spring bloom. Extremely hardy plants, they are not eaten by rodents and are very adaptable. They can also be used for container plantings
For gardens of limited size, try planting mini and dwarf daylillies in containers. Make sure they have drainage holes and can adequately keep in the moisture. Your favorite piece of pottery could become a home for a tiny garden. Line it with a plastic nursery pot, add a little compost to the potting soil for nutrients, top off with bark or mulch, and water liberally!
Hemerocallis (hem-er-o-kal-lis), the botanical name for daylily in Greek means, "beautiful for a day". Each flower only opens for one day. After it is spent, it is succeeded by the next day's blossom. Established clumps bloom vigorously for weeks and weeks.
