The Gurneys Seed & Nursery web site offers a nice balance of seeds and plants for the gardener, in an enticing variety with some unusual plants included. In addition to the predictable peas, corn and sunflowers, there are dwarf pomegranate, fig and banana trees offered at such utterly irresistible prices that I had visions of a patio orchard dancing in my head! There are nut trees, apple trees and a wonderful looking peach tree, as well. Also for the patio is a strawberry offering that can't be beat - a big strawberry jar and enough plants to keep even Hobbit children happy!

For years, I have been dreaming of having a English style hedge along my property line. I've planned and plotted and searched for shrubs that will withstand the heat and drought conditions where I live, and have often contemplated just going out and digging up some of the wild bushes that grow along the roadside.

Imagine my delight, then, to find three different currants, gooseberries, a native plum, chokecherries and elderberries on Gurney's Seed & Nursery web site!

Gurney's Seed & Nursery web page design follows the by-now familiar 3 column format, with pleasing yellow and green colors, plant and flower photos in decent proportion to one another and the side columns filled with useful links. There is a minimum of hyperbole, no over excited text, and no cute little java scripts flashing away to distract you from the reason you are there - to buy seeds and plants.

Customer Service and shipping information are both on the helppage, which has a long list of FAQs. Gurneys Seed & Nursery phone numbers are found on every page at the bottom of the right hand column. Shipping costs are slightly lower than other internet plant sellers.

Some of the seed offerings raise questions in my mind. Crown vetch, for example, is a common erosion control legume not really suited for the home garden. Indeed, it is listed as an invasive by several states, so one wonders why it is being sold?
